FAQ/Help

We will help you with Formatconverter 3

1. A virus detection message appears during the installation process.

A virus detection message appears during the installation process.

Solution:
Click " Ignore" and then " OK". Format Converter 3 has components that search for Microsoft's .NET Framework on the Internet. This is a normal, harmless operation.

2. An error message appears during the installation process.

An error message appears during the installation process.

Solution:
Click " OK". This message is a follow-up message to your virus scanner's heuristic search. This message is harmless.

3. The program fails to start after being successfully installed.

1. Solution:
This may be caused by Microsoft's .NET Framework being installed incorrectly. The following instructions often help in this case.

  • 1. Uninstall the program.
  • 2. Uninstall all versions of .NET Framework via the Control Panel (Programs > Programs and Features).
  • 3. Go to the Download Center at www.microsoft.com.
  • 4. Enter .NET Framework as a search term.
  • 5. Download and install the latest version (currently 3.5 Full Package).
  • 6. Now reinstall and start the program.

2. Solution:
The version of Windows Media Player installed is too old or defective. In this case, at least Media Player 10 should be installed; version 11 would be even better. If necessary, uninstall the player again and reinstall it.
It is important for Media Player to start playing. This process runs through a registration and system check, which is absolutely essential. This activates the relevant system components and codes, and registers them correctly in the system.

3. Solution:
Another obvious step is also to check all the other updates for the operating system, DirectX version and device drives, especially for the graphics card, and to replace them, if necessary. In particular, you should look for new drivers for onboard graphic cards on the manufacturers' websites.

4. The following message appears: " No MP3 encoder is found".

Solution:
We cannot supply an MP3 encoder at the moment for licensing reasons.

5. Why is the Nintendo DS format no longer supported?

Solution:
This format was originally included. Unfortunately, there is now no player available any longer for the Nintendo DS. All the sources have now been closed. Nintendo also rejects the warranty if these programs are on the DS. This has given rise to some queries and complaints in the past, which is why we have decided to exclude this format for the time being.

6. I have an FLV file. I can't convert it.

Solution:
This is due to which program was used to download this file. Some well-known programs such as RealPlayer modify FLV files during the download process. This means that Format Converter is no longer able to convert these files correctly.

7. I have an MOV file. I can't convert it.

Solution:
The main problem here is a legal rather than a technical one. One of the facilities we use for converting multimedia files is the DirectVideo interface. This interface enables the program to display all multimedia files that are also supported by Windows Media Player. There have been until now only limited options available for displaying Apple QuickTime files in the Windows Media Player. In addition, the Apple QuickTime program does not have any interface enabling other programs to access the video data. The file format itself is not publicly specified, which is also the reason why third-party providers are unable either to develop their own software for this format.

There are however subformats of MOV file types that are supported by Windows Media Player. If you actually need to be able to play your files using Media Player as well, they must also be convertible.

8. Can you convert files to MOV format?

Solution:
No. The main problem here again is a legal one. There are still only limited options available for converting Apple QuickTime files.

As a result, it is not possible to create MOV files at the moment.

9. How can I still create files for the iPod, iTouch or iPhone?

Solution:
You can use Format Converter 3 without any problem to create videos that can be played on Apple devices. Use the relevant iPod, iTouch or iPhone profiles to do this.

10. Can TS files be converted?

Solution:
Basically, TS files can be converted as well.

11. I have problems converting TS files.

Solution:
TS files are a special form of video files. They can include different formats. Unlike MPEG-1 format, TS format is not uniquely specified. Based on its algorithm, it is an MPEG-2 format, but which can differ from this format in special cases. TS stands for " Transport Stream". This is exactly where the problem lies. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG_transport_stream)

During data transfer small packets can get lost en route to the receiver. This does not seem to have any impact. In the worst case scenario, you will see a couple of blurred blocks for a very short period of time during very rapid film sequences.

However, when the files are converted, these missing fragments have an impact. Depending on the number of missing data packets, this can result in an audible offset between picture and sound or even in the formation of blocks. Minor errors of this nature can be rectified using error correction. When the errors reach the receiver mentioned earlier they are obviously so large that they have an impact during conversion.

You should record a short sequence with the receiver. You should ideally use a program that has been most affected. We assume that not all programs will display this error to the same extent. You should send this file directly to the developers using the program's " Settings and Upload" function. They will deal with the problem and analyze the stream. The error may be in the transport stream and, if necessary, can be rectified using an update.
